What to see in Puigcerdà

Puigcerdà, which is the capital of the Catalan region of Cerdanya, offers a wide variety of activities to do and places to visit if you want to discover its landscapes, its culture and its history in depth.

What can we visit and do if we are in Puigcerdà?

Corners and Places full of Culture

The first thing we can visit is the old town. A magical place full of irregular and narrow streets, surprising monuments and busy squares. Very close to there we find what would be the nerve center of Puigcerdà, the Plaza de Santa María. All kinds of celebrations and events take place there, such as the medieval market or the Trinxat Festival.

We can also visit a relic from the 12th century, the Bell Tower of the old and now disappeared Church of Santa María. It was able to resist the Civil War, where the church disappeared, becoming a symbol of the city. Today it has been transformed into a cozy tourist office.

Another place very visited by both locals and tourists is Schierbeck Park. The ideal place to visit and enjoy the landscape and its natural environments. At his side is Puigcerdà lake, an artificial pond perfect for photography.

Some other parks that we cannot miss are the Cadí-Moixeró natural park, with more than 40,000 hectares of natural space full of trails, and the Cerdanya-Alt Urgell national reserve, which extends to Andorra and has a significant population of protected species in the process of recovery, such as chamois or bearded vultures.

Outdoor activities and sports

The Cerdanya region is known for its green landscapes and the immense number of sports and outdoor activities that can be practiced there.

It has a immense number of trails, tracks and paths where you can go hiking and discover its spectacular forests, lakes, meadows and all kinds of natural landscapes. One of the most popular routes for its exploration throughout the entire Catalan territory is the Cathar Route.

If we prefer, we can also visit all these outdoor corners and many others practicing other sports and means, such as mountain biking, quad, motorcycle, 4×4 or taking a pleasant horseback ride.

We also have the option of fly over Cerdanya in a balloon and enjoy a panoramic view of the site or, if we prefer to discover the most aquatic corners, explore all the waterfalls, slides and rivers by kayak, canoe or rafting.

During the winter season, you can practice endless activities and sports, such as skiing, snowshoe excursions, trekking, mountain biking or we can relax in some pleasant thermal baths.

And, if we are talking about activities and sports, we could not miss the Golf. The wooded environment and the contour of the Pyrenees and the entire mountain range make Cerdanya the ideal place to practice this sport.
